A tale of fitness, books, food, and life in between

August FPP

on August 30, 2013

It’s the end of the month, so you know what that means! It’s Foodie Pen Pal reveal time!

This month, my penpal was Sheryl from Las Vegas 🙂 She has just started her own blog, and can be found here! In the beginning of August, Sheryl and I touched base, and she picked out lots of goodies that included my favorite things (aka peanut butter! And berries, nuts, granola). I’m always super excited to receive my box of snacks in the mail around the middle of the month – makes for such a nice treat!!

My favorite part of Sheryl’s goodie box was that she sent some foods that represented both her and her husband’s background – I thought that was so neat and made my box extra special. Sheryl is from the Philippines, and her husband is from Hawaii – so she sent powdered milk candy, Magic Flakes (thin crackers) and 2 Big Island cookies from Hawaii! I love that she thought to send a little piece of her family’s heritage!

The Hawaii cookies were delicious! A little melted, as you can see, but still good! I have to be honest that I haven’t yet tried the crackers or candy – I don’t want them to be all gone!!

The rest of my treats came from Trader Joes – I thought it was pretty neat that I haven’t encountered any of these snacks at Trader Joes! They included:

  • PB granola crunch bars
  • Blueberry breakfast bars
  • Plantain chips
  • Sea salt & pepper rice crisps
  • A Mountain Clif Mojo bar

I, of course, love the peanut butter bars – there are 2 of them in a package, and they are peanut buttery (yes, it’s a word), and crunchy! I’ve found that they are a great snack in between meals or right before my workout! I found the same for the Mojo bar as well – there were all sorts of yummy deliciousness in there! I actually ate it as pre-workout fuel on Monday, and it did the trick!

The rice crisps were AMAZING… and I’m pretty sure I ate almost the whole bag in one sitting (oops – sorry I’m not sorry?) – they were a good nighttime treat, with a little peppery kick for an after taste! I haven’t yet tried the blueberry bars, I’m saving them for when school starts up again (ahhh it’s almost hereeeee). I was most excited about the plantain chips – I’m a huge banana fan – I eat at least one a day! I’ve always wanted to try a plantain – and these certainly did not disappoint! I was surprised to find that they tasted nothing like bananas! Who knew?! The chips were actually more savory then a banana and a little bit salty!

The last item in my FPP box was noodles from Indonesia (you can see them on the left hand side of the picture above) – Sheryl said that they were really good, but a little spicy. I haven’t yet had the guts to try them, but I’m thinking they would be delicious in a veggie stir fry 🙂 But I may make P try them out first!

Sheryl, thank you so much for all of my fun treats!!! My most favorite were definitely the ones from the Philippines and Hawaii, but you certainly hit the nail on the head with all of your other picks! Thanks for taking the time to pick out all of my goodies – you can send me snacks anytime! I can’t wait to read more of your blogs!

So, what’s FPP you ask? Well, let me tell you! This fun program was dreamed up by Lindsey, theleangreenbean! You are matched with a penpal on the 5th of the month, and then touch base with one another about likes/dislikes, allergies, dietary restrictions, and anything else you may want to know (I like to ask what my penpal’s last meal would be!). You then are able to pick out snacks/treats/items for your penpal and you send them out of the 15th of the month! You can send things they like, things you like, items that are specific to your region – or any combination of the three!

Pretty cool right? Wanna join? (and I think you should! I love getting different foods from all around the US)! Go HERE and fill out the form by the 4th of September!! Join in on the fun!!

Answer me this: Ever tried a plantain? What’s your favorite thing to buy at Trader Joe’s and/or what is your favorite snack? Ever participated in FPP?

Leave me some love!
