Read, Run, Repeat

A tale of fitness, books, food, and life in between

Life Currently

on June 6, 2013

Welcome to Thursday friends 🙂 Today is really my “Friday” in terms of the work week – we’ll be packing up and leaving for our mini Anniversary trip tomorrow! I’m super excited to get away for a few days with P — not so super excited about the fact that we will be hit with the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea, and it’s going to rain (and rain a ton!) for most of the time we are away. If anyone has any good rainy day ideas, especially for Newport, RI, please send them along 🙂

I’ve seen this little “survey” moving around the blog world, so I thought that I’d jump on the bandwagon 🙂 So without further ado – my life currently!

Current Book(s):

I just started reading “Blackberry Winter” by Sarah Jio – I had heard great things about the author and the story, so I was anxious to read it! When I pick out books to read, I tend to look for “fat” books (as my Mom would say) — sometimes I skip over great stories because I’m a fast reader and devour books! Sarah Jio is a new author for me, and so far the story has not disappointed! If you haven’t read the story it alternates between the story of Vera from 1933 and Claire in 2010. In 1933, there was a freak snowstorm in May – Vera goes to work and when she returns, she discovers that her 3 year old son (Daniel) has disappeared … when the same freak storm happens in 2010, Claire starts to do write an article about the 2 storms and discovers the story of Daniel’s abduction, and she is determined to solve the mystery. Along the way, she discovers that she and Vera are actually connected! I am only about 1/3 of the way through the story, but I am already loving both of the main characters and I am intrigued by the story line. Most of the time I can get annoyed when books swap between different characters, but I am seriously loving this one so far.

Blackberry Winter

Before starting Blackberry Winter, I finished a story called “If Wishes Were Horses” by Robert Barclay … I was excited by the synopsis of the story: Devastated by the senseless deaths of his wife and son at the hands of a drunk driver, Wyatt Blaine remains unable to forgive or to love again. Searching for a sense of peace, he decides to revive his late wife’s equine therapy program for troubled teens at the Blaine family ranch. But then Wyatt’s pastor asks for the impossible—for Wyatt to meet with Gabby Powers, the widow of the man responsible for the accident, and accept her troubled son, Trevor, into the program. Wyatt reluctantly agrees. To his great surprise, Wyatt finds himself drawn to Gabby. But to heal completely, Wyatt and Gabby must first overcome the common tragedy that separates them and learn the true nature of forgiveness.”

If Wishes Were Horses LP

To be honest, I was most intrigued by the equine therapy portion of the book – it appeals to my “psych”-ness 🙂 But I would say that the story was somewhat mediocre and little bit too “Cinderella” to me. I love a good romantic story, but this one was a little too much for me. I was glad when I finished it!

Current Music:

ooo this one is a little bit more difficult — I tend to be a country girl, and almost have country music on – whether I am in the car, or I have my Rascal Flatts or Daruis Rucker station on at work from the iheartradio app! Right now I am really currently loving Luke Bryan’s new song “You can crash my party anytime”

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Reality TV! Overspending at Target 🙂

Current Nail Color:

Right now my nails are bare 😦 But I just bought Essie’s Enuf is Enuf yesterday and am planning on doing my nails tonight — I may even try out some polka dots!

Current Drink:

Wine. Lots of wine lately. Relax Riesling is my absolute fave! I also tend to crave blue margaritas made with curaco! Although, if I’m being totally honest, at this exact moment I’m drinking coffee with caramel coconut creamer.

Current Food:

We’ve been doing really easy meals this week so that we don’t have a ton of leftovers in the fridge! We made two from cooking light, a grilled veggie & hummus wrap, and last night was avocado chicken salad – I’ve been stuck on avocados for about a month now. But tonight is my absolute favorite- TACOS!

Current Favorite Show:

NCIS (always!), the Voice, Nashville (that show totally sucked me in!) — and I’m back to watching the Bachelorette, of course

Current Wish List:

Heavier dumbbells! BBBC is starting back up on June 17th, and I need heavier weights. I don’t understand why they are so darn expensive!! I also have my eye on a particular pair of Sperry boat shoes, and I wish that the weather was going to be nice while we are in RI! I was looking forward to a bunch of outdoor activities!

But most importantly, I wish that my niece wasn’t back in the hospital.

Current Needs:

More money :), and to finish a whole bunch of errands/chores before we leave tomorrow — have to get the dog ready to go to “sleepover camp”, get my stuff packed, check on my parent’s house, etc, etc, etc.

Current Bane of My Existence:

Rain! Actually, just random weather in general … paying my bills with my tiny income … finding time to clean the entire house 🙂

Current Celebrity Crush

Adam Levine … so hot.

Current Indulgence

This week it was Dr. Pepper jelly bellys! I love jelly beans and I have a weak spot for Dr. Pepper! My FPP also sent me some peanut brittle peanuts that I am absolutely addicted to. Cant. get. enough (nor can I stay out of them!)

Current Blessings

My little family and finding out who my real friends are 🙂

Current Slang:

“That’s what she said” – K and I have a game where we see how many times we can say it. I’m sure it annoys the people around us! But we have fun with it!

Current Excitement

Leaving for Rhode Island!!

Current Mood

Happy. Excited. Content.

Current Link

I discovered this link through DIYPlaybook (have you checked out that blog, it’s one of my newest obsessions!). Anyway, check out! You can make word art completely through this site — it’s totally free, it’s fun to mess around with, and you can print out a pretty cool final product. It makes a great gift 😉

I hope that you all are sliding into the week with no hassles or unwelcome surprises! The weekend is upon us!
