May Foodie PenPal!

on May 31, 2013

So, it’s the end of the month, so you know what that means …. (insert drumroll here)

FPP post Foodie Penpals

It’s Foodie Pen Pal (FPP) reveal day! I took a little hiatus from FPP since December when life gotta a little hectic around the holidays … I am happy to be back involved with it!! I have most definitely missed it.

You’ve never heard of FPP? WHAT??? Well, let me enlighten you! 😉

FPP is a program that was dreamed up by the amazing Lindsay at – she started the program back in September 2011 and boy has it grown since then! The basic premise of the program is this: you are paired with a penpal via email, and then you have until the 15th of the month to pick out some fun food goodies to send them — items can be homemade, local, or just some of your favorite items! (After you receive your penpal, you contact them to ask about dietary restrictions, preferences, etc.,and you do not receive goodies from the person that you are sending to). You also send along a handwritten note – anything from a recipe to a card explaining the items in the box. There is a $15 limit on each FPP box – so it’s a really fun way to get to try some new and different items!

So, this month, my FPP was Colleen, and she was from Buffalo, NY – this turned out to be a fun coincidence, since I live in NY and actually attended grad school in Buffalo, NY! I told Colleen that I loved coffee, and anything chocolate and/or PB (of course), and that I also loved fruity flavors and Mexican cuisine … and boy, she did not disappoint with my box o’goodies for this month!!

I was super excited when I saw this on my porch after a particularly “blah” kinda day — it definitely brought a smile to my face!!!

Colleen sent me:

  • Strawberry & banana smoothie mixes
  • Fruit punch crystal light mix-ins
  • Blueberry Special K bars
  • Peanut Brittle Peanuts (yum!!!)
  • Banana Chips — one of my favorite snacks!
  • Goya Rice and black beans — I am saving this as a side dish with a yummy Mexican meal — which will most likely be sometimes next week 🙂
Yummy treats!

Yummy treats!

(I also told her that my favorite color was blue – as Colleen said that she really enjoyed creating “theme” boxes around her penpal’s favorite color or flavor – hence the “blueberry” and the blue box of Goya rice — she’s so clever!!

Oh did I forget to mention that balloon-wrapped item in that last picture? My bad 😉

I also told Colleen that it was my birthday on the day that she emailed me about being my FPP! She was super sweet and sent along an extra birthday surprise!

So sweet!

So sweet!

Cute fruity towels!! Aren’t they adorable? They look so cute in my kitchen and are perfect for summer! Plus, they let me extend my birthday for just a little longer — can’t beat that 🙂 Colleen, thank you SO much for my awesome Foodie Pen Pal box this month — you did a great job and I sure am enjoying all my snacks — and my cute towels — I don’t even want to actually “use” them 😀

(in case you were wondering, my pen pal this month was Pam in NC — I went with a sweet and spicy theme for her!)

If you want to join us on the fun adventure of FFP – click here!! It will take you to Lindsay’s page where you can sign-up!! You won’t regret it, I promise … plus, you get fun mail every month!! Can’t beat that right??

I hope that you all have some fun and/or relaxing plans for the upcoming weekend — supposed to be very hot/humid/more storms here — so I’m not sure what’s on the agenda for me (well besides running the 5K in the sweltering heat/thunderstorm –doesnt THAT sound fun!?) 🙂 Cheers to the weekend my friends!!
