Bragging Rights…

on December 11, 2012

Oh friends… LOTS to tell you– to say this weeked was a whirlwind would be an understatement! Both P and I had our company holiday parties on Saturday, and we decided to attend both of them, since mine was in the afternoon and P’s was in the evening. Both were fun, and totally different- my school is small and we have an intimate gathering at a restaraunt …and P works for a huge credit union and the party was at a hotel and took up 3 floors!

Weekend coffee before the craziness began!

As I said, it was fun, but it ended up being stressful going from party to party – especially since they were WAY far apart and P’s was a formal party, so we had to get all decked out — and also stressful because just before we left for my party we discovered that our fridge is about the kick the bucket. … and we were all in a panic! So we were moving things to the downstairs freezer and P was trying to re-start the compressor– which did work, thank goodness!!

Don't we clean up nice?

AND we scored extra drink tickets for the second party… and smartly (totally just made that word up) decided to stay overnight at the hotel. Good plan on our part. For the record, gummy bears soaked in vodka are delicious… but dangerous!! Sunday was spent recovering while trying to shop for a new fridge before our old one is completely dead!! Luckily, “watch a Christmas movie” was the activity of the day on our calendar, so we ended up snuggled up on the couch with big mugs of hot chocolate watching a ridiculous christmas movie on ABE family – “the Mistle-tones”… it was a relaxing end to the weekend 🙂

ok, the movie ended up being kinda good ;)

Needless to say, I was pretty much out of the loop for the entire weekend in regards to FB, e-mail, and the blog world. Imagine my surprise and shock when I was starting to play catch up while drying my hair on Monday and came to find out that I was the winner of the “Best Elf” for Round 1 on Elf4health!!! I was completely floored, and when I read what my awesome elf, Gina, had to say about me in her nomination, I cried. I have been struggling with a lot of self-doubt, low self-confidence, and a lot of negativity that I created myself, and to read her thoughts about me were incredible. Honestly, Gina made it SO easy to be a good “Elf” – we talked numerous times a day, sent each other many boosts/pictures/quotes, and planned out our challenges together. We were like 2 peas in a pod and had SO much in common, it was a little weird 😉 Elle & Lindsay made a great match, and I’m happy to say I made a new friend! I still can’t believe that I got chosen as the winner! I’m honored, inspired, excited, and I’m finally feeling like starting my blog was the “right” thing to do — in a few short months I’ve met so many awesome people, found a hobby I love, and feel like I found a place where I “fit in” (And I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I’m super excited to see what my prize package is — Elf4Health has some AWESOME sponsors!). A big shoutout to both Elle & Lindsay for creating this “little” endeavor 🙂 The first round was such a blast, and has really helped me keep many things in perspective during this busy holiday season! I hope I can live up to my “Best Elf” in round 2 with my new Elf, Beth! She has just decided to start her own blog, and hopes to have it go live in January – I can’t wait to read it!!

Side note: Elfie Gina ~ Thank you so much for being such an awesome Elf and making the first round of Elf4Health so much fun!! Thank you for taking the time to find me pictures/quotes, e-mailing me back 10 seconds after I e-mailed you, and motivating/encouraging me.  Thanks for sharing your recipes, ideas, and life with me… and thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to write a beautiful nomination about me — your words inspired me, and I hope I can continue to motivate you and others. 🙂 You’re awesome, and I’m so glad we’re friends!! (P.S. start your own blog. immedately. I love reading your Tumblr! You can write a guest post for me anytime!)

Moving on — so that was my start to my Monday — I went off to work with a bounce in my step and a huge grin on my face. AWESOME start to the week. (I’m still beaming). I started talking to my Beth, my new Elf, and had a really productive day.  Then I came home and decided to get in a run for my workout — hopped on the treadmill and just kept running… 51 minutes later, I looked down and realized I set a time and a distance PR for myself — I ran 3.67 miles!!! I know, I know, no big deal to you distance runners… but I can’t remember the last time i’ve ran that amount of miles… and I ran it easily without any shin pain! AMAZING, and most importantly, I felt SO proud of myself — and I let myself feel proud! Running a 5K is already on my goals for 2013, and this was the first time I felt like I could actually race (well) again.

The day finished off with pulling our card # 10 from the calendar – which was “Go out for dessert” (#2) – This was one of P’s ideas 🙂 (We already pulled the first one, but ended up making some cookies at home for dessert instead of going out). We were behind schedule, as both P and I got home late, but we beat feet to TCBY and brought home frozen yogurt to eat together — mine was eggnog ice cream with a dash of chocolate mint on the side and topped with rainbow sprinkles, raspberry truffle candies, and granola ( I have found that LOVE granola on my ice cream!)… along with a little hershey’s syrup, and a dash of PB and marshmellow sauce. YUM.

hello deliciousness!!

hello deliciousness!!

I am hoping that tonight’s activity is an easy one, since we are off to see my little brother and Mom sing in a Christmas concert together (in a group with others with developmental disabilities 🙂 )… this weeend we also picked a card that said ” pick a charity and donate to it” – we are working on researching a charity that we both love — i work/volunteer for 2 non-profit agencies, but we both agreed we wanted to pick one that we both loved. One of my favorite activities that we’ve done is “have a romantic candelit dinner by the Christmas tree” — salad was on the menu that particular night — so it  wasn’t all that exciting food wise – but it was really nice to just sit and talk together 🙂

I hope that all of you are having as a great a start to your week that I’ve had — if not, then I’m sending you lots of good thoughts and love 🙂 Thanks for continuing to read my little blog!
