My First Foodie PenPal Reveal

on August 31, 2012

foodiepal stamp2 Foodie Penpals

A great big thank you to Lindsay at the LeanGreenBean for dreaming up this idea and being in charge of organizing it all!! That’s no small task, since there are now about 1300 people who participate in the US, Canada, and the UK!!

When I first started reading blogs, I was intrigued when they would post about being a “foodie penpal” and I would love to read about all the different treats that each person received in the mail! One day, I got brave, and actually clicked on the link – just a few days before I started this blog, actually. I was super psyched that you didn’t have to be a blogger to participate! A few days into August I received an email from this girl (Hi Katie :)), and my first foodie penpal experience began!! I anxiously awaited for my treats to arrive — I love getting mail — mail that isn’t bills or ads seriously makes my day — I actually get mad when Pete gets the mail first 🙂 When my box arrived, I ripped it open, and this is what my loot looked like:

Katie @ Goober Nut’s Life sent me:

– 3 packs of flax on-the-go paks

– cocoa crunch granola

– PB&J granola

– Autumn Harvest granola

– Apple Cinnamon Nut Crunch Snack

– Gnu Peanut Butter Bar

-Original and Mint Homemade Oreos!!

I was so impressed!! Those flax packets have come in handy for adding to my yogurt when I was still working summer school – and speaking of yogurt — I tried all of those different kinds of granola  with my fruit and yogurt for lunch — they were all yummy, but my favorite was the cocoa crunch — crunchy and chocolate – it added just the right amount of sweetness. I was so sad when it was all gone!! I haven’t eaten the Apple Cinnamon snacks or the Peanut Butter Bar yet – but they are already packed for the car ride down to Cape Cod!

Now, let’s talk about those Oreos. Oh. my. goodness. (Katie – I need that recipe!!) Pete was home when I opened my box, and he was immediately eying those — so I had to promise to share 😉 I ate two of those the day my treats came (don’t worry, Katie they didn’t get stale at all!!) The favorite were my mint – which surprised me – usually I don’t like to mess with something that is “original.” Being a part of the Foodie PenPal exchange was such a blast, and I’m already looking forward to next month! Katie- thanks so much for all my goodies — you did a great job! 🙂

So, what is a Foodie PenPal? Well I’m glad you asked!! Here’s how it works:

On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

Want to join in on the fun?  Contact Lindsay 🙂
Happy Friday, bloggers!!! 😀 The weekend is here!

  1. I love foodie pen pal because you get to try new things all the time!

  2. I’m so glad you loved your package, Brittany! And that the Oreos weren’t stale! I used this recipe:
    http://www.cupcakeproject.com/2009/02/oreo-cookies-made-from-scratch-just.html

And for the mint icing, just replace the the 2 tsp of vanilla extract with 1 tsp vanilla, and about 1/2-1 tsp peppermint extract! It won’t turn out green just because of the peppermint extract, but it you want to make it green, you can always add green food coloring! (I added it so that you could tell them apart. 😀 )

Hehe, thanks for being such a sweet penpal and making this so enjoyable! I loved putting your package together! 🙂

    Have a great weekend!!

  3. So glad I found your blog! I’m another new Foodie Pen Pal, and had so much fun with it this month!

Leave me some love!
